Kamala Harris is Being Anointed
The vice president was endorsed by President Joe Biden and the corporate media has decided she’s already the Democratic nominee
President Joe Biden did not initially endorse anyone when he announced his exit from the 2024 presidential election, but he quickly changed that by officially endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Party nominee. This is all well and good, but Harris did not win a single primary or caucus and has not been chosen as the nominee; so why is the corporate media already pretending that she will be running against Donald Trump?
The answer is that they are doing the same thing that they did to get President Biden to drop out of the race: Overwhelmingly pushing a single point of view—Kamala Harris being the nominee, in this case—to create an inevitable reality. Here is how CNN is covering Vice President Harris’s candidacy for the nomination the first morning after Biden dropped out:
Compare that to the only other potential candidate who has expressed interest in the nomination so far, at least that I’m aware of, Senator Joe Manchin:
Here is Politico speculating on possibilities for Kamala Harris’s vice presidential nominee, which is still begging the question of whether she herself will be the presidential nominee. These outlets are not impartially reporting the news, they are creating a narrative that they want their readers to accept as reality. The people who forced Joe Biden out of the nomination have clearly chosen Kamala Harris as his replacement, and the only thing left is to make sure that Democratic voters get on board with their agenda. That is what this propaganda is designed to do, make you believe that Kamala Harris is not only the inevitable nominee but the rightful nominee, and anyone who would dare even consider challenging her is not to be taken seriously.
In my post above about how the Democratic Party and corporate media has been cynically using Joe Biden since the 2020 election I said:
The contempt of the average Republican voter toward the Republican Party establishment was part of what made Donald Trump’s takeover of that party possible in the first place, so establishment figures like George W. Bush or Mitt Romney turning against Trump actually helped him. There is a much different dynamic at play within the Democratic Party. Democratic voters, whether they like to hear it or not, are much more likely to go along with the party establishment like Barack Obama, celebrity influencers like George Clooney, and mouth-pieces for the corporate press like Joe Scarborough than Republican voters would be.
The simple fact is that creating a narrative where Vice President Harris is the inevitable and rightful Democratic nominee for 2024 is very likely to work on the average Democratic voter. I don’t see that that necessarily translates into victory come November, however.
Remember that Kamala Harris was one of the candidates, besides the obvious in Joe Biden, that the establishment loved in 2020, but Democratic voters, when given more of a choice, did not like her at all. Coming off of the Summer of George Floyd, Harris, a former ruthless prosecutor, was not a good look for the party. Here is Tulsi Gabbard roasting her record during one of the Democratic debates:
This record has not changed, and will not help her with grassroots activists who make up a decent portion of the Democratic Party electorate. Nor will the fact that she is a major figure in the Biden regime which is perceived by many Arab and Muslim Americans as having given the green-light to Israel to decimate Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. This was a problem that the Biden campaign was going to face that the Harris campaign will almost certainly inherit. While this is not likely to give votes to Donald Trump, who is as openly pro-Israel as anyone, it may convince many otherwise reliable Democratic voters to not vote at all, which could possibly cost her an important state like Michigan and the election.
While Harris does not have Biden’s cognitive decline issues, she has her own issues, such as her prosecutorial record, along with every other weakness that Biden would have had being a major figure in his administration and she will have to answer for the fact that she was obviously complicit in trying to hide his cognitive decline from the public. While she will certainly enjoy a grace period for the moment and probably immediately following the Democratic National Convention, I expect that ultimately Kamala Harris will be a weaker candidate to go up against Donald Trump than Joe Biden, even mentally impaired, was. I’m not making any sort of prediction, as anything could happen between now and November to change the politics, but I don’t believe that the Democratic Party actually helped themselves in this election by forcing Joe Biden out.
