Never Say Nothing: The Podcast
After years of deliberation, I am finally doing a podcast right here on Substack
Before I moved over to writing on Substack my blog was called Never Say Nothing, and now I am resurrecting that name for the podcast that I am starting here on Substack to augment my writing. I have been planning to start the Never Say Nothing podcast for too many years, but planning and doing are two entirely separate things. Since Substack has added support for podcasting and especially since I have been able to reacquire my url (NeverSayNothing.com), the planning has moved closer and closer to doing and I am finally ready to begin.
Today marks the release of the first beta episode of Never Say Nothing. I am calling these early episodes beta episodes because they are going to be rough, and in this case, shorter, compared to podcasts that you may be used to listening to and I am very interested in getting feedback about how and what I can do to improve. I have never done a podcast, so if I sound anxious or awkward it’s because I’m feeling very anxious and awkward while recording. Speaking of recording, I am currently using the built-in microphone on my MacBook Air to record myself, which is obviously not ideal in terms of recording quality. I have a much better microphone, a condenser Rode NT1-A, but I can’t seem to get it to work properly anymore. For now, I’m going to continue using the MacBook Air microphone (Unless I can get the other microphone to work) because it would be silly to invest in a better microphone if this experiment doesn’t work out.
The beta episodes are also a chance for me to decide if I even want to continue on with a regular podcast. I am not the world’s greatest speaker, as I’m sure you can tell. Before you ask, yes, that is my real voice, and no, I do not have a head cold. I have a face for radio and a voice for silence. So the beta episodes are essentially a learning process for me, and an experiment to see if this is something I want to do.
The first episode is about the Republican vice presidential nominee, Senator J.D. Vance, saying that people sick of stupid wars are voting Republican, when his running-mate Donald Trump is talking about how Israel should use American weapons to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities. It’s roughly 8 minutes long, so please give it a listen and send all the feedback that you have to help me improve.
