Vice President Harris Uses Hurricane Helene Tragedy for Campaign Photo-Op

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, former president George W. Bush was lambasted in the media for not doing enough to alleviate the disaster and “flying over” New Orleans while people were suffering and dying. Vice President Kamala Harris, the current Democratic Party nominee in the 2024 presidential election, and President Joe Biden have, to say the least, faced a much less critical response for their complete non-response to the disaster unfolding from Hurricane Helene. After apparently pledging $8.7 billion in “aid” to Israel and several hundred million more dollars to Ukraine, President Biden said there’s nothing more that the U.S. federal government can make available in aid to Americans, who are being taxed to fund these handouts to foreign governments, suffering the effects of Hurricane Helene.

Now I don’t want to play political games with what Biden is saying here, his point is that the federal government has already done so much and set aside so many resources that there isn’t more that could possibly be expected, not that he’s unwilling to give more. I would argue, however, that there is $8.7 billion earmarked for Israel and $375 million earmarked for Ukraine, with over $5 billion more for Ukraine in limbo, that can be better spent here in the United States for Hurricane Helene recovery. You can’t tell me that every dime of that money plus much more could be used to help Americans who need it right now, rather than ripping them off to help oligarchs in Ukraine and Israel. I’m against government spending in general, but if the government is going to spend money, and they are, then I would certainly prefer it be spent to benefit the Americans that it was stolen from in the first place.

More ridiculous than the U.S. government saying there’s nothing more that they can do for suffering Americans while enriching crooked politicians overseas with billions of dollars, is Vice President Harris staging a picture to politicize the tragedy of Hurricane Helene, which you can see in full resolution above and a screenshot of the tweet below, which I expect her to delete as soon as one of her more competent staffers realizes how ridiculous she looks.

Note that her earbud on which she is allegedly listening to a briefing from Deanne Criswell, Administrator of FEMA, is not plugged into her phone, and the sheet of paper on which she is “taking notes” is completely blank. Mollie Hemingway from The Federalist is exactly right that this staged photo is something right out of HBO’s political satire, Veep. How on Earth does this photo make it past all of the people that it had to get approved by to actually be posted to her X account, including herself? To quote Vice President Selina Meyer from Veep, “The level of incompetence in this office is staggering!”

Politicians stage photos all the time, and Harris probably did talk to the people that she claims to have been briefed by. But she is not talking to them in this ridiculous photo. This photo is an example of the vice president using her official government X account, rather than her campaign account, to politicize a tragedy for the benefit of her presidential campaign. This obviously staged photo, along with the obviously staged phone call from the Obamas, along with the obviously staged episode of Oprah all add to the critique that there is absolutely no substance to Kamala Harris, and are an insult to the intelligence of voters, especially those suffering the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, along with proving that Harris has no intelligence herself.
